Fasteners, as fasten and connection parts in common life. It has many different types, including
bolts, studs, nuts, screws, self drilling screws, wood screws, washers, pins, rivets, and etc.
Here we will introduce 7 most common seen fasteners and their applications.
สลักเกลียว are with a head and body, which usually works with a nut, and using for two parts with
holes. The bolt connections are detachable connection, so bolts are widely used in Bridge,
Building, Ships, automobile etc.
Studs with no head, just with thread on both side. When connecting, one side screws into a
internal thread part, and the other side works with a nut. Studs mainly used to connect thick
parts or applications require compact constructions, such large steel structural constructions
and Generators.
ถั่ว are with internal thread hole. We mostly seen hex nuts, square nuts, as well as round nuts,
these are work with bolts, studs and machine screws, to make two parts connected to one
integrated part.
สกรู, people sometimes mixed it up with bolts, because it also made of a head and body
and mainly three types including machine screws, tighten screws and special screws. Machine
screws are used to connect a part with tighten threaded hole and another part with normal
hole, and do not require to work with a nut. It mainly applied to applications like electric
equipment or products, small size motors, as well as motorcycle.
Self tapping screws, similar as machine screws, but with a special thread for tapping screws.
They are used to connect two thin metal parts into integrated part, before that, we need to
have holes on both parts. Self tapping screws are most common seen in alloy doors, furniture
and alloy windows.
Wood screws, also similar as machine screws, but with a special thread for wood screws. I
could be directly screws into a wood component, to connect a metal or nonmetal part(with a
hole) to one wood part. Applications are wooden furniture, wooden door, and other wooden
constructions.
Washers, like flat washers or spring washers, works with bolts, screws and nuts, to reduce the
pressure for entire connected structure, and protect the surface of connected parts to avoid
damage. Spring washers can also prevent the nuts get loosening.
