What is a Whitworth bolt?

Whitworth bolts are steel hexagon bolts or hex cap screws which conforms with British Standard Whitworth Thread. As its name suggest, whitworth bolts also called the BSW bolts.

BSW is short of British Standard Whitworth, which is an imperial-unit-based screw thread standard, devised and specified by Joseph Whitworth and adopted as a British Standard later. British Standard Whitworth bolts = BSW bolts.
